Tech conglomerates are running out of grid capacity to train AI models. To meet soaring demand, private utilities are using state-backed eminent domain powers to designate family farms as “blighted” or place them within infrastructure “corridors.” Condemnation proceedings can force property sales, divide communities, and clear land for massive substations and high-voltage transmission lines built to feed the AI cloud. In some cases, communities may lose land to power projects serving distant data centers while seeing little direct benefit themselves.
